Soundsafe Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) is a type of soundproofing material that is often used to reduce noise transmission through walls, floors, and ceilings. It is a dense, limp material made from a combination of PVC and other materials, such as barium sulfate or calcium silicate.
MLV is effective at blocking and reducing noise because of its high density and flexibility. Sound waves have a difficult time passing through the material, and any noise that does manage to get through is absorbed by the material’s mass and damping properties. MLV can be used in a variety of applications, including home and commercial construction, automotive soundproofing, and industrial noise control.
MLV is typically sold in rolls or sheets, and can be cut to fit the specific dimensions of the area being soundproofed. It can also be layered for increased noise reduction. It is important to note that MLV is not a complete solution for soundproofing and should be used in conjunction with other soundproofing materials and techniques for optimal results.
